Dyson Air Multiplier™ Fan

I know this thing is all over the blogospere but it is quite innovative and damn sexy... for a table fan! Kudos to the folks at Dyson for helping form follow function.

Air is drawn into the base of the machine. The air is forced up into the loop amplifier and accelerated through the 1.3mm annular aperture, creating a jet of air that hugs the airfoil-shaped ramp. While exiting the loop amplifier, the jet pulls air from behind the fan into the airflow (inducement). At the same time, the surrounding air from the front and sides of the machine are forced into the air stream (entrainment), amplifying it 15 times. The result is a constant uninterrupted flow of cooling air.

Coil Lamp

This lamp by Craighton Berman is brilliant!

Coil Lamp reduces the domestic lamp to the absolute minimum of defining elements. A single electrical cord coils around what appears to be an empty volume, defining the iconic form of a table lamp and ultimately powering a single light bulb.

The entire form is created exclusively from a single 100 foot extension cord that has been wrapped around a laser-cut clear plexiglass form. This simple transformation elevates the status of the humble, everyday extension cord to the realm of high design.

Ninja Dry

I don't like umbrellas. I know they keep you dry and prevent awkward wet shirts at client meetings... but they're just not my style. I hate carrying them, closed or open, and I feel awkward (but I guess being soaked during a client presentation is more awkward).

Anyway, now I can finally feel like a total BAD ASS with this new Ninja Umbrella. Sling this over your non-laptop bag shoulder and you will be prepared for the rain and people will probably not mess with you either.

The Vladimir

Check out the Vladimir Pallet Mirror made out of old shipping pallets! Who says rough and unfinished isn't the new black! (not me)

Millions of pallets are used everyday to move goods across the world. Many times, these pallets come from exotic locations and are made from native exotic woods. But through shipping and clumsy handling, many of these pallets are damaged. A lot of the time they are simply discarded after use. These beautiful samples of another world typically turn into landfill or mulch.

This mirror was made using two partially destroyed shipping pallets. The scars on the lumber tell a story of its travels. While the form is reminiscent of old victorian french mirrors, its origin is far from gold leaf.

Just saw this on MoCo Loco and I have to say it is genius. Convenient and non-toxic!

Mike and Maaike have created the handy Baja BBQ Firepack for Lazzari/ Design Annex,, a package of eco-friendly instant charcoal that avoids the need for lighter fluid and the resulting chemical residue. Two pounds of natural lump charcoal is packaged in recycled biodegradeable paper pulp with an integrated chimney. Simply place the entire package in the barbecue and light. Takeshi Miyakawa's Fractal Drawers are awesome. I dig how there are a billion different sized drawers and all the space is used up. Miyakawa has priced the Fractal Drawers at $20K because he said it is a pain in the ass to make and doesn't want to make too many. Honesty rules!
